Federal Minister Martin Polaschek and Governor Wilfried Haslauer have launched a joint initiative to strengthen excellence and expertise in health and medicine in Salzburg. Over the next three years, the federal government and the province will jointly invest 15 million euros in the Life Sciences location Salzburg.
Life Sciences include medicine, biotechnology and pharmacology – fields that significantly contribute to health, innovation and prosperity. With the new Life Sciences Masterplan, the federal and provincial governments are taking the next step in implementing Salzburg’s Science and Innovation Strategy (WISS), laying the foundation for the next decade of research and education.
The focus is on cooperation and excellence in research: collaboration between the University of Salzburg (PLUS), the Paracelsus Medical University (PMU) and the Salzburg University Hospital (SALK) will be intensified, with key areas in cancer research, neuroscience, regenerative medicine, data analysis and nursing sciences. In addition, fellowships for young medical researchers will be established.
Since 2016, Innovation Salzburg has been supporting the implementation of the WISS strategy. By the end of 2023, 45 Life Sciences projects had already been carried out with a total investment of around 50 million euros, 20.5 million of which were provided by the Province of Salzburg.
