The innovation emerged from the Josef Ressel Center for Intelligent and Secure Industrial Automation (ISIA) and demonstrates the potential of close collaboration between research and industry.
At the core of the development is a new approach to the energy-optimized control of industrial drive systems. Using artificial intelligence, motion sequences in robots and automated production lines are intended to become significantly more energy efficient.
Research with Direct Industrial Impact
The joint patent application is the result of a long-term research partnership. Initial work began in 2020 as part of the EU Interreg project KI-Net. Since 2022, the topic has been further developed within the Josef Ressel Center ISIA together with industry partners including B&R, COPA-DATA and SIGMATEK.
The establishment of the center was supported by Innovation Salzburg and funded through WISS – the Science and Innovation Strategy of the State of Salzburg. Innovation Salzburg supports collaboration between science and industry and helps transfer research into practical applications.
The project also gained international recognition at the International Conference on Machine Learning (ICML) 2026: the underlying research paper was selected as a Spotlight contribution – a distinction achieved by only around 2.2% of submissions.
