The internationally active company will further develop a state-of-the-art manufacturing process for microchips in Salzburg \u2013 a key technology for applications such as artificial intelligence and high-performance computing. In panel-level packaging, semiconductors are no longer processed on traditional round carrier discs (wafers), but on rectangular high-performance substrates. This allows the available surface area to be used more efficiently and increases chip performance. The new Center of Excellence at Lam Research brings together research, development and infrastructure at one location and aims to accelerate the development of new solutions for the demands of the AI era.<\/p>\n
The Salzburg site builds on Semsysco GmbH<\/span><\/span>, which was founded in 2012 and acquired by Lam Research in 2022. Through this integration, the company\u2019s global research network was expanded with European expertise in wet processing at panel level. At the same time, the site became Lam\u2019s first research and development facility dedicated to wet chemical panel processing.<\/p>\n Innovation Salzburg has been supporting the company for many years \u2013 including projects funded by the Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG), which are co-financed by the Province of Salzburg.
