The center is a joint initiative of the University of Salzburg and Paracelsus Medical Private University (PMU), in close cooperation with Salzburg University Hospital (SALK). It represents a key implementation step of the Salzburg Life Sciences Master Plan.
\nFrom 2025 to 2027, the Austrian federal government and the Province of Salzburg will each provide \u20ac7.5 million to support its establishment. The goal is to consolidate existing expertise, strengthen interdisciplinary research, and translate scientific findings more rapidly into practical applications.<\/p>\n
The focus areas include cancer research and immunology, neuroscience, and regenerative medicine. These fields are complemented by digital medicine, public health, nursing, prevention, and rehabilitation. A particular emphasis is placed on integrating basic research, clinical expertise, and data science.
\nThrough close collaboration between universities, hospitals, and additional partners, new diagnostic and therapeutic approaches as well as innovative care models are expected to reach clinical practice more quickly.<\/p>\n
The LSCS also strengthens the training of early-career researchers through doctoral programs, fellowships, and practice-oriented qualification formats. At the same time, the center supports the transfer of research results into medical applications and the creation of spin-offs.
\nWith the LSCS, a central hub is being established within Salzburg\u2019s life sciences ecosystem. Around 40 companies employing more than 3,000 people are already active in this sector.
